Mott MacDonald successfully secures second 5 year term on two National Grid Alliances

Mott MacDonald, in association with its established joint venture partners, has been successful in securing the second 5 year term of two National Grid Alliances that have been running since 2007.

Working collaboratively in both cases with National Grid, Mott MacDonald, Alstom Grid and Skanska form the South East Electricity Substation Alliance (SEESA) whilst Electricity Alliance West (EAW) consists of Mott MacDonald, AMEC and Babcock Networks.

The working culture is for the partners to act as a single, integrated team by aligning and sharing performance risks and rewards. Innovation is strongly encouraged to facilitate delivery and promote safety on the UK’s high-voltage electricity transmission network.

Mott MacDonald’s director responsible for power transmission and distribution, James Martin said:  "Our performance over the past 5 years has built a sound platform to move forward as National Grid delivers a greater workload due to increased investment in its electricity transmission network. The two contracts we have signed give us direct access to a share of a potential £1.5bn of expenditure over the 5 year period and we will need to be increasingly commercially focussed and at our innovative best to deliver a safe and reliable service for this critical national infrastructure."

“By bringing together designer, contractors and suppliers, and working closely with the client, the alliances are better able to achieve National Grid’s objectives of safe, efficient and sustainable delivery than would be possible using a traditional, segregated design-procure-construct approach to projects.”

The new contracts will run until 2017.
