Canadian Students Global Leaders in Movember Fundraising
University of Toronto and Dalhousie University win coveted visit from Astronaut, Commander Chris Hadfield
TORONTO, ON (December 12th, 2013) – Movember, the global charity that raises funds and awareness for men’s health, is proud to announce the winners of the Big Moustache on Campus (BMOC) prize - a visit from Astronaut, Commander Chris Hadfield. Two Canadian schools took top spots for the leading fundraising campus globally, and per capita in Canada - The University of Toronto, and Dalhousie University in Halifax, respectively.
The BMOC network, made up of 1,613 school teams across Canada, also took top spot as leading global fundraiser, raising over $2.7M to date. The University of Toronto took top fundraising school globally, with 977 students and faculty raising $148,449. Dalhousie University won leading fundraising school per capita in Canada, with 645 students and faculty raising $93,566.
"We knew that Canadians had embraced the moustache - but to have two Canadian schools leading fundraising, and our Big Moustache on Campus Network leading fundraising globally, is really an amazing achievement,” said Pete Bombaci, Country Director, Movember Canada. “This group represents the next generation of fundraisers. They connected as one network, despite geography and rivalry, and look at what they have accomplished.”
"I'm incredibly proud of all the people who helped make this year's Movember such a great success,” commented Col. Chris Hadfield. “Thanks to the volunteers, sponsors and moustachioed multitudes for yet again showing what can be achieved when we work towards the benefit of others."
Commander Chris Hadfield will visit each school in 2014 for a one-on-one with the winning team and to give a talk to the broader campus.
