Registration now open for its 7th annual fight for men’s health

TORONTO, ONTARIO (September 18th, 2013) - Movember, the global movement that raises funds and awareness for men’s health is now open for registration for its 7th annual campaign.  Last year, 247,441 Canadians showed their love and support of the moustache, raising a remarkable $42.6 million for men’s health initiatives. Movember funds prostate cancer and men’s mental health initiatives, and through its Global Action Plan (GAP), testicular cancer. To enlist, please visit Movember.com.

Through the power of the Mo, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas raise the funds that allow Movember to support programs that are having an everlasting impact on the lives of Canadian men. To date there have been more than 130 Movember funded Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC) and Movember Foundation programs across Canada.

“As a result of moustaches grown by thousands of Canadians, Movember has been able to fund more than 130 programs across the country, since it started back in 2007,” said Peter Bombaci, Country Director, Movember Canada, “Mo Bros and Mo Sistas have put the spotlight on men’s health and getting Canadian men of all ages thinking, talking and taking action to check up on their health.”

“Having suffered from depression for over 20 years Movember has given me both the courage and opportunity to tell my story.” Kevin Swain, Mo Bro. “I started growing in 2009 and over the years Movember has made me take a closer look at my health and make the changes I need to live a healthier life, I hope by sharing my story today other men will open up about their health.”

Starting today, men and women register at Movember.com to grow or support the Mo.  Men start November 1st clean-shaven and grow their moustache for 30 days, getting friends, family and colleagues to join their team and donate to their Mo-growing efforts. Women, or Mo Sistas, are key to the campaign's success. They act as ambassadors for the Mo, spreading the word about men's health and showing their support for the men in their life. At the end of Movember everyone unites to celebrate their journey at official Gala Partés or they can host their own party.

Movember lives online as an engaging and creative digital campaign with over 29 million global page visits in 2012.  Making an impact both online and offline, over 2.72 billion conversations were had about men’s health during the 2012 campaign. These conversations go a long way by helping to break down the stigmas around men’s health and raising awareness.
