Theatre Ninjas mobile app downloaded 1,250 times since start of Edinburgh Fringe 2010
The Theatre Ninjas mobile app has been downloaded more than 1,250 times since the beginning of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2010. One of the most exciting new developments to hit the world’s largest arts festival, the Theatre Ninjas initiative gives shows and performers the chance to upload free tickets a couple of hours before their gig. Audiences can then gain entrance with a secret code, and an average of 35 of the 160-plus to sign up thus far have been offering upwards of 750 tickets in total each day. The scheme benefits all involved – the performers have fuller audiences, Fringe-goers get free tickets, venues can promote other shows to those that come, and the diverse range of shows are brought to the wider attention. Users can either download the Theatre Ninjas mobile app for their iPhone from the iTunes Store or access the website – www.theatreninjas.co.uk. The features offered by Theatre Ninjas include: • Information on each show • Secret code that can be exchanged for a ticket • Google Map giving directions to the venue • Linked to Twitter so that those that use the Theatre Ninjas to see a show can then tweet a review of it Theatre Ninjas was conceived by a group of young theatre practitioners including producers, directors and actors who have experience of productions at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Edward Stambollouian, co-producer of the Theatre Ninjas, said: “We're acquiring quite a ninja-following. People keep stopping us in the street to chat about their ninja-triumphs. We've had high-fives, hugs and one group of people asked for a ninja photograph!” ‘The most intriguing app at the moment seems to be Theatre Ninjas’ – The Guardian 'Fantastic initiative' - The Independent Notes to Editors * 1,268 downloads of the Theatre Ninjas mobile app as of 9th August 2010 For further information, please contact Will Wood of Multitude Media on +44 (0) 7817 014 515 or will.wood@multitudemedia.co.uk.
