Community bank helps serve those who have served their country and are now in need

Oak Brook, IL – (October 15, 2012) – Republic Bank of Chicago is partnering with the efforts of the Chicagoland Rotary Clubs for “Veterans Stand Down Day” to collect donations of clean and lightly used coats, hats and gloves for homeless veterans at each of its 16 banking center locations throughout Chicagoland.

“As a community bank, we feel it is our duty to be tuned into and to help fulfill the needs of all individuals from all walks of life that are part of our communities,” said Larry Marks, Chief Operating Officer for Republic Bank. “Especially for those that have so selflessly served our country, we feel an indelible bond with and need to give back. We’re encouraging the rest of our community members to lend support and hope to those for whom we could never express enough gratitude for their noble acts of service.”

“Stand Down Day” is part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ efforts to provide homeless veterans with various resources and essential necessities. In addition to the clothes collected, veterans will be treated with a hot meal and offered free medical and career services. Last year, over 850 veterans attended the event and a similar or greater attendance is expected this year.

All donations will be submitted to the Chicagoland Rotary Clubs for this year’s “Stand Down Day” event on Thursday, November 8 at the Humboldt Park Armory (1551 N. Kedzie Avenue, Chicago) from 8:00 AM-3:00 PM. In addition to helping with donation collections, Republic Bank employees will be volunteering during the event to assist in administering services and clothing items to in-need veterans.

Donations are being accepted now through October 31 at any of Republic Bank’s 16 banking centers throughout Chicagoland.
