Safe Trick-or-Treating and Fun for the Entire Family!

Glenview, IL – October 8, 2012 – The Glen Town Center is hosting a safe Halloween “Trick or Treat” event on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm  to provide families with a safe destination for their children to trick or treat on Halloween.

Children will be able to walk throughout the entire Glen Town Center dressed in Halloween costumes to collect candy and treats from the Center’s retailers. This allows kids to be in a safe and friendly environment while enjoying this ageless tradition. The event is designed for children ages ten and younger and is free to participate.

“The Glen Town Center is a family- and community-oriented facility, and we especially want to keep the safety of our children in mind while preparing for the Halloween holiday,” said Tom Sikoral, Sr. General Manager for OliverMcMillan Management Services, Inc. and the Glen. “Halloween is such a fun time of the year for young kids; we wanted to provide an environment for trick-or-treaters and their families to enjoy it as safely as possible.”

The Glen offers parents these tips for making sure children are safe during the Halloween season:

  • Help your child pick out or make a costume that will be safe as possible. Make sure it is fire proof with eye holes that are large enough for good peripheral vision.
  • If you set jack-o-lanterns outside with candles, make sure they are out of reach so costumes won't accidentally catch on fire.
  • Make sure that if your child is carrying a plastic prop, such as a sword, knife or a pitchfork, that the tips are smooth and flexible enough not to cause injury.
  • Serving a healthy and protein-filled dinner before trick-or-treating will make children less likely to eat the candy they collect, giving parents a chance to check candy for tampered packages and homemade goodies that can be hazardous.
  • Remind children that they should never approach cars or talk to strangers. Never enter anyone’s home, even if they are offering candy.
  • Look both ways before crossing streets and cross only when the lights tell you to.
  • Apply reflective tape to all costumes so children are easily identified at night.

The Glen Town Center values the safety of children in the neighborhood and invites all families to join in having a safe Halloween. The Glen is located at 2651 Navy Blvd., Glenview, IL 60026. For additional information, please call 847-724-2025 or visit www.TheGlenTownCenter.com.
