Instead of distributing Christmas gifts to personnel, NCC is donating SEK 1 million to the charitable organization Engineers Without Borders. NCC’s donation will go to fund the extension of a school in the Karagwe district of Tanzania.

The school’s education program can thereby be extended by two years, which means the pupils will then be eligible to apply for university studies.

“Engineers Without Borders is delighted with this Christmas present! It means we can, together with our partners in Tanzania, take major and crucial steps to improve the educational situation in Karagwe,” says Caroline Bastholm, Secretary General of Engineers Without Borders, a non-profit organization that works with various development projects around the world.

The project is being carried out by volunteers, with local suppliers and always in partnership with local business partners to spread knowledge and deliver sustainable solutions.

NCC’s donation will help realize a planned project that allows a school in Karagwe, Tanzania to build more classrooms, laboratories and dormitories. The education program can thereby be extended, which means the pupils will then be eligible to apply for university studies. New water tanks will provide access to drinking water and water for cleaning, cooking and watering crops for the 3,500 to 4,000 pupils and teachers in the area.

“We are directing this year’s Christmas donation to a project that will tangibly promote access to expertise and education that we in the Nordic countries often take for granted,” says Tomas Carlsson, CEO of NCC.

NCC will also look at how its employees can contribute to the project.

NCC’s Christmas donation will be made to Engineers Without Borders in Sweden, which will cooperate with its sister organizations in Denmark, Finland and Norway.
