November 10, 1998 NCC GROUP: INTERIM REPORT, JANUARY-SEPTEMBER 1998 Consolidated income after net financial items improved to SEK 699 m. (loss: 247). After full tax, consolidated income amounted to SEK 501 m. (loss: 188), equal to SEK 4.60 per share (loss: 1.70). On a rolling 12-month basis, earnings per share amounted to SEK 3.60, compared with a loss of SEK 2.80 for full-year 1997. Total orders received by construction operations rose by 5 percent to SEK 23.9 billion (22.8). The Nordic construction market is expected to grow by 5 percent during 1998. The real estate market is developing favorably in Sweden, Denmark and Finland. "Conditions in the Nordic construction market remain strong. However, there is some uncertainty regarding the extent to which the autumn unrest in financial markets will affect future investments in the construction sector. In NCC's markets, investment propensity is mainly determined by the state of the various domestic economies, and there are no signs to date of any weakening following the recent turbulence in the global economy. The net margin on construction operations is increasing steadily and amounted to 2.5 percent on a 12-month rolling basis," says Jan Sjöqvist, NCC's President and Chief Executive Officer. "The trend in the real estate market is favorable, which is increasing the potential for real estate development in Sweden, Denmark and Finland, at the same time as it is becoming more difficult to predict developments in Norway," Jan Sjöqvist adds.
