NCC acquires share in Polish civil engineering company NCC has acquired slightly more than 25% of the shares in PRInz, Poland's third largest road construction company, at a price of SEK 60 M. The PRInz Group has sales of approximately half a billion Swedish kronor and about 2,300 employees. The company has approximately 5% of the road construction market in Poland and is particularly strong in the Katowice region, where it has a market share of almost 70%. PRInz has undergone considerable expansion in recent years and, in addition to the road construction area, it also has a strong position in the industry area, with its own sources of gravel and crushed products, asphalt and cement plants. "This acquisition is an important step in our strategy to develop NCC's civil engineering operations in Poland," says Lars Wupio, Chairman of NCC Poland. "PRInz is a profitable and well-managed company, with a strong management team. Poland has a very comprehensive expansion program for its motorway network and, in this area, NCC has considerable interests to take care of." In 1998, NCC decided that Poland would become one of its domestic markets and, in the same year, the NCC Poland subsidiary was established, the operations of which focus primarily on the most expansive regions in the country. The civil engineering operations began in the coastal area, close to Gdansk, with the construction of a converter station for the transfer of electricity between Poland and Sweden. In 1999, a consortium, of which NCC is one of the members, signed a concession agreement with the Polish state for the construction and management of the A2 motorway project. In addition, NCC is managing several residential projects in the Warsaw area.
