NCC Property Development and Vasakronan have signed a lease with the National Courts Administration concerning 16,500 square meters of floor space. The lease marks the go-ahead for the development of a new courthouse in the Ullevi area, in a property that is jointly owned with Vasakronan. The lease was approved by the Swedish government on August 30, 2007. Construction on the project is scheduled to commence in September 2007 and the National Courts Administration will gain access to the building in September 2009.

In close cooperation with the National Courts Administration and Vasakronan, NCC has developed a solution for the co-location of Gothenburg City Court, the current Mölndal City Court and the Rent and Leasehold Tribunal.

Vasakronan and NCC will utilize a jointly owned development right close to the Police Headquarters in Gothenburg comprising about 16,500 square meters of floor space. Work on the project will commence immediately and will include construction of a new property for the National Courts Administration. The lease signed with the National Courts Administration encompasses all of Phase 1 of the property and extends over 25 years.

The courthouse is a stage in the development of the area between the two Ullevi arenas in Gothenburg. The extension to the Police Headquarters will be adjoined with the city court via underground passages. A new building to house the Swedish Prison and Probation Services, as well as and two office buildings, are also planned in the area.

“The new public buildings will bring further life to the city district. Earlier, the area was dominated by a large car park,” says Manne Aronsson, Acting Regional Manager for NCC Property Development in Western Sweden. “Through close cooperation between the National Courts Administration, NCC Property Development and Vasakronan, an efficient and highly economical co-location solution has been developed.”

The construction assignment has been awarded to NCC Construction and will be registered among orders during the third quarter of 2007.
