In April 2010, NCC Construction Sweden will be submitting green tenders as a supplement to all bids exceeding SEK 50 million. This means that NCC will annually submit more than 1,000 climate-neutral tenders with a distinct pro-environmental profile. The green bids will include climate declarations, climate compensation offers and the establishment of green workplaces, among other features.

NCC will be the first company in the construction and property sector to supplement all major tenders with a green ancillary tender. “We want to accelerate the green conversion of the construction industry by offering our customers green tenders, in addition to the ordinary tender. We hope that when given the opportunity to choose a green alternative, many customers will choose to invest in more environmentally compatible projects,” Tomas Carlsson, Head of NCC Construction in Sweden. The green tenders will be climate neutral by offering customers climate-declared projects, climate compensations and greener workplaces. “A considerable amount of development work is behind this commitment. Climate declarations, which to date have only been available for residential and office buildings, are now being developed for all types of projects,” says Tomas Carlsson. NCC has also decided to always offer green establishment, which means that workplaces will always be adapted using energy-saving equipment and portacabins at construction sites. The climate compensation will be achieved primarily by supporting climate projects approved by the UN and the EU. Projects under SEK 50 million will also be offered green tenders or distinct pro-environmental parameters. Green bids are scheduled to be fully implemented by the end of 2010.
