NCC International Projects concentrates operations to Nordic and Baltic Sea region NCC International Projects is to concentrate its operations to the Nordic and Baltic Sea region by gradually discontinuing its project operations in Africa, Asia and Central America. Projects in progress in the markets that are to be phased out will be completed. "We have concluded that the Nordic market for heavy civil engineering projects will grow sharply in the years ahead. As a result, we want to concentrate our best resources to ensure that they will be available in our domestic markets. At the same time, the expansion of the EU will result in increased investments in infrastructure in the countries around the Baltic Sea, which will require a maximum focusing of our resources," says Alf Göransson, NCC's President and Chief Executive Officer. During 2003, NCC International Projects had sales of SEK 3.9 billion, of which sales in the market areas that are now to be discontinued accounted for SEK 1.4 billion. Profitability in these markets has been weak in the past two years. "Following the EU's expansion, the need for improved infrastructure in our neighboring countries, not least in the form of sewage and water-supply facilities, will become increasingly evident. The environmental impact we currently have on the Baltic Sea is not acceptable. It is in the interest of all of the countries concerned to resolve this urgent problem," Alf Göransson says.
