At the climate conference Rio+20, the new NCC head office at Østensjøveien 27 was appointed one of the world’s 100 best environmental buildings from a sustainability perspective.

The award is an initiative by the global environmental organization Sustainia. The winner was announced yesterday in Rio de Janeiro by the former Norwegian Prime Minister, Gro Harlem Brundtland.

The project on Østensjøveien 27 (Ø27) will be built according to the standard for passive houses, and focus on issues such as CO2- friendly building materials, ample parking space for bicycles and excellent access for public transports. Altogether, this allows a reduction of CO2-emissions by 50 per cent compared to today’s standard. The project will achieve the BREEAM rating «Very good» as a minimum, which ensures a broad and thorough environmental focus throughout the entire development and construction process.

When these environmental criteria also result in a cost-efficient building with a spectacular architecture and an inspiring indoors environment that stimulates cooperation, the building becomes highly interesting and shows us the way to a sustainable future. The building will be completed in December 2013.

«We are very proud to be listed on the prestigious organization Sustainia’s Top 100 list. The award inspires NCC’s focus on the development of sustainable solutions for the future», says Joachim Hallengren, President, NCC Property Development.

Østensjøveien 27 is NCC Norway’s new head office in Oslo. The building will also host Norsk Dental Depot, among other tenants.

The architect for the Ø27 project is the well-known Danish architects Henning Larsen Architects AS, who among other achievements have designed the Opera House in Copenhagen.
