NCC has secured a renewed contract from LKAB to perform preparatory rock work for the “Avsänkning M1250” project as well as other ongoing development works. The project, which will be conducted in a partnering format, is worth approximately SEK 200 million and includes an option on an extension.

The preparatory work consists of inclined drifts down to the level of M1250 (meaning 1,250 meters under ground level) and certain works at the level of 1,000 meters. The development works comprise drifts for the actual mining of ore at existing levels. The project also includes reinforcement activities using shotcrete and bolts and raise boring. The work will commence in January 2007 and will employ approximately 50 persons, of whom about ten will be new recruits.

This contract is a continuation of a previous underground contract performed within a partnering format. Partnering entails that the client and the contractor form an integrated project organization in which strict borders are set for responsibilities and with joint incentives for fulfilling the goals of the project.

“It is gratifying that, in cooperation with LKAB, we have found even more efficient solutions, largely thanks to the partnering form of cooperation,” says Peter Gjörup, Regional Manager at NCC. “The fact that it will enable us to recruit new employees and invest in new machinery naturally makes it extra satisfactory.”
