NCC Roads in Poland has received an order to renovate and broaden Highway 4 between Krakow and Tarnow. The client is the Polish National Road Administration in cooperation with the Polish Infrastructure Ministry. The Strabag&Mota consortium will be the main contractor and the project is scheduled for completion during 2007.

The contract is part of the expansion of highway corridor Number 4, which covers the Berlin-Cottbus-Wroclaw-Katowice-Krakow-Ukraine route down to the Black Sea region. The current section pertains to the stretch of highway directly east of Krakow towards Tarnow. The project is being financed by the EU and the Polish government. “Since NCC has only been established in the Krakow area for a year, the contract is of considerable strategic importance. The assignment will provide the local organization with a stable base for continued growth and confirms the fact that NCC’s Polish organization has the capacity and expertise to undertake large-scale, complex road-building projects in accordance with the EU’s construction norms,” says Jonas Högberg, Head of NCC Roads in Poland. The project encompasses the renovation and broadening of 11.3 kilometers of expressway, approximately 150,000 square meters of new wearing course, 70,000 metric tons of asphalt, a relatively large grade-separated junction (overpass), extensive ground work, water and sewage activities and electricity and traffic systems. NCC Roads is the leading asphalt company in Poland, with annual sales exceeding one million tons. NCC Roads also occupies a leading position in the Polish market for aggregates and for road construction. The Polish operations have grown sharply in the past five years and currently have annual sales of more than SEK 1,000 million.
