NCC signs asphalt contracts valued at over SEK 0.5bn in Norway
To date this year, NCC in Norway has signed nine asphalt contracts with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and several regions in Norway. The contracts extend for one year and have a combined value of approximately SEK 540 million.
Weather and traffic cause wear and tear on roads, so regular maintenance is important to keep roads safe for users. A report prepared by NCC shows that the accumulated maintenance debt in the Scandinavian road system amounts to approximately EUR 7.8bn and that the road network will deteriorate if nothing is done.
As of January 1, 2024, a new law in Norway requires a minimum weighting of 30 percent to be given to environmental considerations in public procurements. In all of these nine contracts, NCC has provided environmental product declarations (EPDs).
“The new legal requirement has been effective. More countries should promote a reduction in CO2 emissions in the tendering process,” says Grete Aspelund, Head of NCC Industry.
The contracts include milling, asphalt laying, road markings and related works and will be carried out on heavily trafficked roads. Efficient logistics and a well-planned work schedule will ensure safe implementation.
The nine asphalt contracts are in the following areas:
- Oppland and Hedmark
- Greater Oslo
- Inlandet County
- Trondheim, south
- Trondheim, north
- Trondheim FV Sør
- SVV Agder
- Vestfold SVV
- Telemark SVV
All contracts will start in the spring and must be completed by autumn 2024.
The nine asphalt contracts, with a total value of approximately SEK 540 million, will be registered in the NCC Industry business area in the first quarter of 2024.
