NCC Construction has secured the contract to build 276 residential apartments on the campus of Umeå University in northern Sweden with an option for another 189 apartments. The order, which is worth SEK 128 M, was placed by the municipal housing company, AB Bostaden. The value of the optional order is SEK 69 M.

NCC was given the go-ahead Thursday to build the new Stadsliden, Lyan 1 project in Umeå. In total, the project comprises nine new residential buildings, a large multi-story car park, and ancillary buildings in the form of laundry units, refuse stations and storage facilities. The residential units are mainly intended for students but are also designed for other tenant categories. The apartments will range from one-room units measuring 28 square meters to three-room units measuring 66 square meters. Of the 465 apartments planned, 325 will be one-room units, 100 two-room units and 40 three-room units. The project is divided into two stages, the second of which is an option. The total order value, including the option, is estimated to approximately SEK 197 M. The second stage will be built on condition that there is still a demand for apartments. Construction work will start in April and it is estimated that the first stage, comprising 276 apartments, will be completed during April 2007. The option for the second stage will be agreed at the beginning of 2006. The project will be included in order bookings during the second quarter of 2005.
