Svenska kraftnät has contracted NCC to build a 400 kV overhead power transmission line, which will help to ensure electricity security in south-western Sweden. The project is a design-build contract in partnering form and the order value is approximately SEK 270 million.

The project comprises the construction of a 17-kilometer long 400 kV overhead power line between Stenkullen in Lerum Municipality and Ingelkärr in Ale Municipality. The planning and design process began in March 2022, and the production phase will now commence with construction scheduled to start in January 2023. NCC’s contract includes project planning, felling, construction roads, lattice towers, installation of phase wires and overhead earth wires, and deployment.

“The overhead power line between Ingelkärr and Stenkullen is a central infrastructure investment that we are very much looking forward to implementing together with Svenska kraftnät. By involving NCC already in the planning phase, we have created good conditions for an effective process with conscientious management of the public funds being used for the project,” says Kenneth Nilsson, Head of NCC Infrastructure.

The new power line is an important part of the transmission network reinforcement in Västra Götaland and will help to ensure electricity security in south-western Sweden. 400 kV is the highest voltage used in Sweden for the transmission of electrical energy using alternating current.

The project will be carried out with great consideration for the natural and aquatic environment, and biodiversity. For example, the felling of forest and coastal vegetation will be limited as much as possible and carried out with consideration for the breeding season of birds.

Construction of the overhead power line will commence in January 2023 and is scheduled for completion in January 2025. The order will be registered in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the fourth quarter of 2022 and the order value is approximately SEK 270 million.
