NCC has signed an agreement with the municipality-owned Undervisningsbygg KF to build Bentsebrua school in Oslo, Norway. The school, which encompasses 9,000 square meters and will accommodate 540 students, will be constructed to meet high environmental standards. The order value is approximately SEK 360 million.

NCC and Undervisningsbygg KF have been planning and designing the project since last year and are now entering the production phase. The assignment will be carried out on a turnkey basis.

“It has been a challenge for all parties to carry out such a comprehensive project digitally, but together we successfully leveraged the potential of the collaboration between contractor and client. It will be a state-of-the-art building with strong technical and aesthetic qualities and high environmental ambitions,” says Andre Engelsen Milje, project manager at Undervisningsbygg.

Oslo Municipality places high climate and environmental demands on its projects and the school will be certified under the BREEAM Excellent standard. To achieve the building’s ambitious environmental objectives, the school will, for example, feature solar panels and be built with a large amount of wood in its interior and a sedum roof.

The project will select machines and materials during the construction work to achieve a 40-percent reduction in carbon emissions compared with a standard reference project. The school will essentially be a zero-energy building when it is commissioned.

“NCC is a large and experienced builder of schools and we are bringing these experiences to this project. Through close cooperation with Undervisningsbygg KF and Oslo Municipality, we are ensuring that both the process and end result will be of high quality. We look forward to breaking the ground for this sustainable school,” says Catarina Molén-Runnäs, Business Area Manager of NCC Building Nordics.

The assignment is valued at approximately SEK 360 million and will be registered among orders in the fourth quarter of 2021 in NCC Building Nordics. The school is scheduled for completion at the beginning of 2024.
