NCC to build bridge section of E6 expressway for SEK 380 million NCC has been commissioned to build the Saltkällan-Fläskeberget section of the E6 expressway, which includes construction of a large arched bridge over the Örekilsälven river. The client is the National Road Administration's Western Region and the order is valued at SEK 380 million. As part of the National Road Administration's ambition of making the E6 a safer and more secure thoroughfare, the time has now come for the Munkedal section. This section comprises an approximately 1.5-kilometer stretch of highway, a new junction by Saltkällan and an approximately 450-meter-long arched bridge, with a height of approximately 50 meters above the Örekilsälven river and an arch with a span of 225 meters. The assignment also includes three subsidiary bridges. The National Road Administration selected NCC for the assignment as early as this summer, but the procurement process was delayed by an appeal. The district court in Dalarna has now ruled that the Road Administration had been correct in its approach of basing its procurement on the best possible total economy, not just on the price. "We are gratified at being assigned the order and proud that the National Road Administration included other parameters in its assessment, such as design methods, organization, quality and work environment," says Richard Thorpö, Assistant Regional Manager at NCC Construction Sweden, Western Region. "A low price can make a project much more expensive in the long run and the National Road Administration is doing the right thing by looking at the total cost throughout the lifetime of bridge," Thorpö explains. NCC will initiate project planning immediately but will have to await government approval of its operational plan before actual construction work can commence. "Government approval of our operational plan is a precondition for the start-up of construction work, but assuming that there are no unreasonable delays, construction should be completed by midsummer 2007," says Richard Thorpö. A total of approximately 40-50 employees will be engaged in the project. For further information, please contact: Lars O.
