NCC to build forensic psychiatric facility outside Stockholm for SEK 500 million

NCC Construction Sweden has concluded an agreement with Locum AB concerning the construction of a new forensic psychiatric facility outside Stockholm. The order is estimated to be worth approximately SEK 500 million and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2010.

The agreement, known as a cooperation agreement, entails that NCC, Locum and other project participants will engage in an advanced degree of cooperation throughout the various stages of the project.

Planning and project engineering will now commence ahead of construction, which is scheduled to start in autumn 2008. The parties will jointly formulate the final parameters for the construction project, work that also includes an agreement on a contractual target cost for the project.

The facility, which will comprise a total of 20,000 square meters, has been ordered by Stockholm County Council and will be built on a 15.7-hectare site.

“This contract was preceded by an architectural competition and building the winning contribution, called Helix, will be an exciting challenge, not least from the viewpoint of technical complexity,” says Claes Magnusson, Department Manager at NCC Construction region Stockholm/Mälardalen.

“Due to age and wear, the current forensic psychiatric facility needs replacing. Better premises will be provided for both patients and personnel,” says Marie Boestad at Locum AB.

The contract will be registered among orders during the fourth quarter of 2008.
