NCC to build LKAB plant for SEK 500 million

Report this content

NCC has been commissioned by LKAB to build a pellet-production plant in Malmberget. The order is worth approximately SEK 500 million and is for the largest partnering project to date in Sweden.

The order, which includes landscaping and construction work for LKAB in Malmberget and the plant, will substantially increase the production capacity for pellets. The plant will be constructed in the Vitåfors industrial site. The assignment will comprise project design, expansion of the existing enrichment plant and construction of a new pellet plant and a new unloading station, including product silos and storage space for unprocessed goods from Kiruna. Construction will commence immediately and the pellet-production plant is scheduled to be in operation by December 1, 2006. On average, 130-140 NCC employees will be engaged in the project. The plant in Malmberget is the largest Swedish project to date conducted in a partnering format. This means that the customer, contractor and designer form an integrated project organization with strictly delineated responsibility and with joint incentives for achieving the goals established for the project. The project will be included in orders received during the fourth quarter of 2004.
