NCC to build municipal water and sewage system along Njurunda coastline in Sundsvall, Sweden
NCC has been commissioned by MittSverige Vatten & Avfall to build a municipal water and sewage system for approximately 450 properties along the Njurunda coastline in Sundsvall, which is a continuation of the project NCC is already carrying out at the location. The project will be in the form of a construction contract in partnering form with an order value of approximately SEK 250 million.

NCC is to build a municipal water and sewage system for approximately 900 properties along the Njurunda coastline in Sundsvall. The Njurunda coastline is largely a recreational area where more and more people are taking up year-round residence. The transition of the area from simpler homes to mainly year-round residences is increasing the burden on the environment, which is why the municipality needs to ensure that environmental and health standards are met.
The build-out is divided into three phases, and in 2022 NCC initiated work to provide access to municipal water and sewage services to approximately 450 properties. NCC has now agreed with MittSverige Vatten & Avfall to also start work on the remaining phases comprising approximately 450 additional properties. The project consists of the construction of 23,000 meters of water and sewage lines and 24 sewer pumping stations, six of which will have a pump house.
“I’m delighted to have NCC on site as the contractor to expand the water and sewage system along the Njurunda coastline. We are now entering phases B and C following an excellent partnership with NCC in phase A. We’ve been working hard to resolve land issues and find the optimal technical solutions. We’re doing all of this to enable us to offer a reliable supply of water while protecting sensitive aquatic environments,” says Peter Nylén, Project Manager, MittSverige Vatten & Avfall.
“We are very familiar with MittSverige Vatten & Avfall and have worked together on several successful projects in the past. NCC has broad-based expertise in water and sewage systems and extensive experience of developing infrastructure in urban areas undergoing change. We are pleased to have been once again entrusted to develop the Njurunda coastline area and look forward to commencing work,” says Kenneth Nilsson, Head of NCC Infrastructure.
The project comprises a construction contract in partnering form and is scheduled for completion in 2026.
The order value is approximately SEK 250 million and it will be registered among orders in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the first quarter of 2023. NCC is also carrying out the first phase, which was registered among orders in the first quarter of 2022.
