NCC has been commissioned by Hemsö to construct the new Stenkumla retirement home in Västerås. The project is a turnkey contract in partnering form with an order value of approximately SEK 150 million.

In collaboration with Hemsö and the City of Västerås, NCC will construct the new Stenkumla retirement home in Västerås. Stenkumla retirement home will comprise 60 apartments, common areas, staff rooms and as well as a garden with a pavilion. A separate building for a reserve power system and storage is included in the project.

Stenkumla is to be designed with stringent requirements on energy efficiency, a good indoor environment and sound material choices, and will be certified in accordance with Miljöbyggnad Gold for energy consumption and Miljöbyggnad Silver for the rest of the building. The frame of the building will be constructed using eco-friendly concrete and solar panels will be installed on the roof.

“We are pleased to be collaborating with NCC and this will be an excellent and welcome addition to the city’s existing portfolio of retirement homes. This building will provide a solid basis for physical and mental well-being for both care recipients and personnel,” says, Mattias Lindström, project manager at Hemsö.

Stenkumla is located in the Råby city district adjacent to a green natural area. The new retirement home will consist of an L-shaped building with four floors and an entrance, a lobby, staff rooms and spaces for building facilities on the ground floor. Each apartment is approximately 33 square meters and contains a kitchenette as well as a sink and WC that can be raised or lowered.

“We have now completed the initiative project planning phase and are looking forward to commencing construction and being a part of the important societal development of the City of Västerås. In today’s landscape with over 500,000 Swedes over the age of 80, it feels right to be contributing to the expansion of elderly care in Sweden. We look forward to completing this project together with Hemsö and the City of Västerås,” says Anders Lindkvist, Business Manager at NCC Building in Västerås.

The order value is approximately SEK 150 million and it will be registered among orders in the NCC Building Sweden business area in the first quarter of 2024. Construction is scheduled to start immediately and is expected to be completed in autumn 2025.
