NCC to build new school in Västerås
NCC will build a new school with associated sports hall and schoolyard in partnership with the City of Västerås in Sweden. The new school will be located in Fredriksdal, part of the growing Gäddeholm area, east of Västerås. The project is a turnkey contract in partnering form with an order value of approximately SEK 450 million.

NCC has entered into a partnership with the City of Västerås to build a new school with associated sports hall for 700 students aged 6–16 years. The new school will also be prepared to accommodate an additional 450 students in the future. The school building will have a floor area of nearly 13,000 square meters and the sports hall will be almost 3,000 square meters. The school will also feature a large schoolyard.
“NCC has won the procurement and we are pleased to collaborate with them on the construction of the new school building in Fredriksdal. We have good past experience of conducting partnering projects with NCC from several major assignments in the city,” says Christer Gerhardsson, project manager at the property department of the City of Västerås.
The school building will consist of two L-shaped buildings made of wood and brick. The building will harmonize with the existing architecture in the area in terms of color, material and design. A large geothermal heating and solar power system will be built to reduce energy costs when the school is in use, helping the school to meet the environmental requirements for a Miljöbyggnad Silver rating.
“We have a longstanding and successful history of collaboration with the City of Västerås when it comes to building schools. The new school in Fredriksdal will be our third ongoing school project alongside Drömfabriken and Carlforsska Gymnasiet. We can see that we can effectively leverage our resources and experience in these parallel school projects in Västerås, and we look forward to delivering yet another new school to expectant and proud students,” says Niklas Sparw, Head of NCC Building Sweden.
The order value is approximately SEK 450 million and will be registered in the NCC Building Sweden business area in the first quarter of 2024. The project will commence in the first quarter of 2024 and is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026.
