NCC to build new wastewater treatment plant in Enköping, Sweden
NCC has been commissioned by Enköping Municipality to build a new wastewater treatment plant. The municipality expects to grow to about 60,000 inhabitants by 2040 and the new treatment plant must be dimensioned to handle this growth. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2027 and the order value is approximately SEK 325 million.

The new wastewater treatment plant will replace the existing plant, which is considered obsolete. The treatment plant must meet the municipality’s estimated population growth and have the capacity to manage both existing and future treatment requirements. Water purification will be improved and emissions to Lake Mälaren reduced through the use of modern technology.
“This is positive for Enköping Municipality and we are pleased to have reached an agreement with NCC that means we will soon be able to start construction of the new wastewater treatment plant,” says Danielle Littlewood, Acting Head of Water and Wastewater at Enköping Municipality.
NCC has been commissioned to perform the construction part of the contract. The new facility comprises a total of four buildings and three external bio-basins.
“NCC has extensive experience in water purification and unique specialist expertise in water and wastewater. We will utilize our broad expertise to conduct construction and civil engineering works that will ensure that Enköping Municipality has continued access to an efficient and modern wastewater treatment system for a long time to come,” says Kenneth Nilsson, Head of NCC Infrastructure.
NCC builds and refurbishes water infrastructure on a daily basis, and constructs 10 to 15 waterworks, water towers and wastewater treatment plants every year across Sweden. NCC is the only construction company with its own specialized water treatment expertise and thus has all of the expertise required to coordinate turnkey facilities.
Work will get under way during the autumn with a final inspection in mid-2027. The order value amounts to approximately SEK 325 million and will be registered in the second quarter of 2023 in the NCC Infrastructure business area.
