NCC Construction has been commissioned to modernize parts of the station area at the central railway station in Uppsala, in what will become Uppsala travel center. The client is the Swedish Railway Administration’s Eastern Region and the order is worth nearly SEK 207 million.

Uppsala travel center is a project being conducted jointly by Uppsala Municipality, the Swedish Railway Administration and Jernhusen AB. It is the largest project ever in Uppsala and, in addition to an upgrade of the track area, includes new roads, new properties, new parks and new bicycle paths around the current central railway station in Uppsala. The old station area is in need of modernization and new tracks will be added to increase safety and adapt to ever increasing traffic volumes. NCC’s project includes new platforms under canopies, waiting rooms and groundwork for new railway tracks. The old platforms will be demolished and replaced with provisional ones during the construction period. “We will organize the work so that current traffic is not affected. By building provisional platforms, for example, we hope to avoid inconveniencing passengers,” says Per C. Ekström, NCC’s Business Manager. NCC will commence work on the project on September 11, 2006, and it is scheduled for completion in October 2011. NCC will employ an average of 20 persons on the Uppsala travel center project. The assignment will be registered among orders during the third quarter of 2006.
