NCC has been commissioned by Kristianstad Municipality to construct a new pumping station for storm and soil water from the central, low-lying parts of the municipality. The pumping station will play an important role in removing water and protecting the city from flooding. The assignment is a design-build contract and the order value is approximately SEK 240 million.

“The pumping station is essential to protect central Kristianstad from flooding. It is an advanced project and the contractor will confront many challenges,” says Mårten Svensson, Project Manager at the Technical Services Department, Kristianstad Municipality.

Kristianstad is surrounded by an embankment with a system of flood defences that keep sea water at bay. The current pumping station has been operating for more than 80 years and has reached the end of its service life. A new station represents an important part in the expansion of the flood defences, work that has been ongoing in Kristianstad Municipality for many years.

NCC’s assignment comprises the new construction of a complete pumping station with a total pumping capacity of 10 cubic meters per second. The project also includes the construction of a new waterway to the pumping station from the existing intake dam. The old pumping station will remain in operation during the entire construction period.

The construction of the new pumping station is complicated with extensive excavations, diving work and underwater casting. This will require the combined solid expertise and experience possessed by NCC,” says Christer Stenson, Production Manager, NCC Infrastructure.

Construction will start in August 2022 and the new pumping station is scheduled to be completed in spring 2025.

The contract amount is approximately SEK 240 million and the order will be registered in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the third quarter of 2022.
