Älvsjöstaden is a major urban development area comprising a total of approximately 1,500 housing units in three phases. Disused factory and industrial land is to be transformed into a city neighborhood in close proximity to green spaces and commuter trains. In 2019, NCC together with Familjebostäder initiated production of a first project in the area: Kabelverket, containing 129 apartments and with a completion date in early 2022. Another project is now starting: Jordkabeln.

“Familjebostäder is currently constructing a record number of apartments and Älvsjöstaden is our largest urban development area. We are pleased to begin work on the new Jordkabeln district. The housing units here will be built to a high standard and the area will offer a number of mobility services, making it easy for our tenants to live without owning a car,” says Håkan Siggelin, Head of the Project Development department at Familjebostäder.

NCC has been tasked with constructing 144 rental apartments across four building structures of between three and 14 storeys. The well-planned units will range from studios to four-bedroom apartments with balconies or terraces.

The project work is proceeding in accordance with Älvsjöstaden’s environmental and energy plan, and the housing units are being built to the Sweden Green Building Council Silver level, which places strict demands on such features as low energy consumption, proper ventilation and good materials selection.

“Our ongoing project Kabelverket is a highly successful partnership with Familjebostäder and we look forward to continue building in this new and sustainable city district in southern Stockholm,” says Henrik Landelius, Business Area Manager of NCC Building Sweden.

Construction is scheduled to start in June 2020 and the first tenants are expected to take up occupancy in summer 2023.

The contract is valued at approximately SEK 280 million and will be registered in the second quarter of 2020 in the NCC Building Sweden business area.
