NCC Construction Sweden is to construct a new energy-efficient school in Södertälje in the form of a partnering project with Telge Fastigheter. The school, which will have a capacity of 650 pupils, will be designed in accordance with the Södertälje school model and constructed as a GreenBuilding. The order is valued at approximately SEK 150 million for NCC.

The new Hovsjö school for preschool children up to pupils aged 16 will be built on the former site of Högberga school. NCC has built three preschools for the Municipality of Södertälje since 2008 and is also constructing the Tavesta school in Järna. All of these schools are GreenBuildings – buildings with low CO2 emissions – as is the case for Hovsjö school. “Our close cooperation with Telge has led to lower costs and enhanced the efficiency of the construction process. This school will also have an energy requirement that is 30 percent lower than the construction norm,” says Hans Ingvarsson, Business Manager at NCC Construction, Stockholm/Mälardalen Region. Hovsjö school will be a light, open and highly flexible building. “The partnership with NCC has generated significant cost savings. Hovsjö school is now next in line. It is one of our most comprehensive partnering projects we have engaged in and the largest school construction project under the Södertälje school model,” says Taina Sunnarborg, Project Manager at Telge Fastigheter. Partnering is a structured form of cooperation within the construction industry that enables developers, consultants and contractors to jointly solve construction assignments through honest cooperation, transparent operations and allowing various areas of expertise to complement each other throughout the construction process. The school is scheduled for completion in January 2012. About 60 people will work on the project, including 20 NCC employees. The order will be registered in the second quarter of 2010.
