NCC Construction AS in Norway has signed a contract with Helsebygg Midt-Norge (hospital-development project for central Norway) for the second phase of St. Olav’s Hospital in Trondheim. The assignment will be conducted as a partnering project* and has an order value of approximately SEK 1 billion.

The hospital construction project in Trondheim is the largest construction project in the Nordic region to date to be conducted using the partnering form of cooperation. “The contract with Helsebygg Midt-Norge is the ultimate evidence that partnering has achieved acceptance in public construction. Although the hospital project is Scandinavia’s largest partnering project, this is only the beginning for the construction industry’s future work method,” says Sven Christian Ulvatne, President of NCC Construction in Norway. NCC and Helsebygg Midt-Norge will develop the final framework for construction of the 85,000 square-meter hospital by January 1, 2006. This work includes an agreement on a contracted target price for the hospital project. NCC is offering an organization comprising nine persons for the initial planning phase, after which the actual construction will commence and continue for five years until 2011. *NCC Partnering involves all parties in a construction project working with open reporting of their costs and with a common incentive to reduce construction costs and share profits. Since 2002, NCC has doubled its sales in partnering projects. In 2004, sales amounted to approximately SEK 3 billion and these will increase further in 2005. In Denmark, partnering represents 25 percent of sales. The second-largest partnering project to date the building of LKAB’s pellet-production plant in Malmberget, northern Sweden, with an order value of SEK 550 M.
