NCC has been commissioned by Linxon to construct new power substation buildings for Värtan Station in the Stockholm Royal Seaport (Norra Djurgårdsstaden) district of Stockholm. The transaction is a turnkey contract for Linxon, with Ellevio as the end customer. The order value of NCC’s share of the contract is approximately SEK 400 million.

Linxon has previously secured contracts for electrical AC substations for the Skanstull and Barkarby areas as part of upgrading the electrical grid in the Stockholm region. It is now the turn of Ellevio’s Värta facility, which needs to increase its capacity to meet the electricity supply requirements of tomorrow.

“We are very proud of the confidence that Ellevio has placed in us. We are going to construct the largest substation in Ellevio’s history in collaboration with NCC, which has extensive experience of complex construction projects,” says Ingela Hålling, Managing Director of Linxon Sweden.

NCC will be responsible for the construction of two new buildings with a total area of approximately 18,000 square meters. The buildings will be constructed on the existing site in Hjorthagen and this will be done in phases as the existing substation is successively demolished. When the buildings are completed, Linxon will install two switchgears for both 110 kilovolts and 220 kilovolts.

“We are looking forward to participating in the work to renew and secure the electricity supply in Stockholm. A project such as this, which will remain operational throughout the construction period, requires precision in project management and project coordination, which we will ensure through close collaboration with Linxon and Ellevio,” says Henrik Landelius, Business Area Manager of NCC Building Sweden.

Construction is scheduled to start in the summer of 2021 and the construction time is estimated at approximately five years.

The approximately SEK 400 million transaction will be registered among orders in the fourth quarter of 2020 in the NCC Building Sweden business area. The construction contract will be carried out in collaboration with NCC Infrastructure.
