NCC Construction Sweden has been contracted to construct a new healthcare building on the grounds of Västerås General Hospital. The customer is the Västmanland County Council and the project will be performed in accordance with the partnering form of cooperation. The value of the contract is estimated at SEK 400 million. Currently, planning and preparations are under way, with construction expected to begin in August 2008.

Until May 2008, NCC and the Västmanland County Council will be formulating the final framework for construction. This work will include reaching agreement on a contracted target price for the hospital project. NCC is offering to provide an organization consisting of five people for the initial planning phase, following which the actual construction, which is expected to continue for two and one half years until 2010, will begin.

The healthcare building will contain new, modern healthcare facilities, primarily for medical and surgical activities. The healthcare environment will be significantly improved, through making single-patient rooms standard, among other improvements.

“We look forward to being able to contribute to a modern, high-quality healthcare environment for the inhabitants of Västerås and the rest of the county,” says Bo Karlsson, Business Manager at NCC for the Stockholm/Mälardalen region. “We are also pleased that Västmanland County Council has chosen partnering as the form of cooperation and that we at NCC have earned their trust.”

The healthcare facility is expected to be completed in September 2010. Approximately 50-60 people are expected to be employed by the project.

Partnering is a structured form of cooperation, whereby the client, consultants and contractors jointly undertake a construction assignment. The method is based on open and trusting cooperation, in which the professional expertise of all the parties concerned complement each other during all parts of the project.

The contract is expected to be registered among orders in the second quarter of 2008.
