NCC to construct part of highway link between Markaryd and Osby for SEK 168 million
NCC Construction Sweden has been commissioned to construct a section of the new highway link connecting Halmstad with Karlshamn. The assignment is the result of NCC’s conscious investment in infrastructure projects through the NCC Infra organization. The project will be conducted as a turnkey contract on behalf of the Swedish Road Administration. The order is valued at about SEK 168 million.
The section that NCC will construct comprises a total of 20 kilometers and extends from Markaryd to Osby. The road will be a two-lane highway and the assignment also includes the construction of two bridges, one of which will be about 100 meters long and extend across the Helge River.
– The purpose of the new link is to raise the standard and accessibility for long-haul and regional traffic. The current road section comprises many curves and narrow parts, which will now be removed, and the new road will also increase traffic safety, says Tor Wolgast, Business Manager at NCC Construction Sweden Southern Region.
The road is designed to be nine meters wide and constructed for speeds of 90 kilometers an hour. The traffic volume is estimated at 1,500-2,000 vehicles per day in 2010.
Since January 1, 2009, NCC Construction Sweden has gathered all major infrastructure works in the NCC Infra organization. NCC’s competence and experience in the area is combined in the new organization. The assignment to construct the link between Markaryd and Osby should be viewed as a result of NCC’s determined focus on and investment in infrastructure projects.
Work is expected to commence following the 2009 summer vacation period. A total of 60 NCC employees will work on the project. The order value will be registered in the second quarter of 2009.
