“We are currently conducting several similar projects across the country and are looking forward to delivering a new facility to the Prison and Probation Service in Kristianstad. The new prison will form an important part of Sweden’s most modern judicial center, and it’s a great feeling to now start work on the construction together with NCC, which possesses solid expertise and experience of this type of project,” says Peter Jacobsson, project manager at Intea.

The new building for the Prison and Probation Service covers approximately 17,000 square meters and will be built adjacent to the premises of the Swedish Police Authority and the Swedish Prosecution Authority in the new judicial center that is taking shape in the old goods railway yard to the north of Kristianstad central station. In addition to a new prison, the new premises will also include facilities for non-institutional care and the National Transportation Unit of the Prison and Probation Service.

“The prison is a complex project with special requirements for the operations to function well in the long term. We are drawing from our experience in similar projects and can also share knowledge between ongoing projects with a high security classification within the Group to create value for Intea and the Prison and Probation Service,” says Henrik Landelius, Head of NCC Building Sweden.

The project is being implemented in partnering form, and in the first phase, NCC, Intea and the Prison and Probation Service have jointly planned, budgeted and designed the program and system documentation and have agreed on a target cost for the project. This work started before the summer. Now the project is transitioning to the construction phase. Groundwork will commence in early 2022 and the prison is expected to be completed in 2024.

The assignment is valued at approximately SEK 680 million and will be registered among orders in the first quarter of 2022 in the NCC Building Sweden business area.
