NCC Construction Sweden and the National Road Administration have signed an agreement concerning the Täby Kyrkby to Rosenkälla section of the Norrortsleden Highway in northern Greater Stockholm. In addition to construction assignments, the agreement includes an extensive operation and maintenance contract. The total order value is SEK 715 million.

The assignment consists of a seven-kilometer, 2+1 section of road with median cable barriers and includes a one-kilometer tunnel. Construction is expected to take three years and all of the subsections of the Norrortsleden Highway is planned to be inaugurated at a joint traffic-opening ceremony in the autumn of 2008. Norrortsleden is being built in order to improve connections between the municipalities in northern Greater Stockholm. Norrortsleden will shorten travel time considerably during peak traffic and will facilitate the development of more efficient public transport. The National Road Administration will be testing a new contract format – the design and build model – for this project. “We have a 15-year turnkey commitment for this particular section of highway, including project planning and construction right up to operation and maintenance,” says Svante Hagman, Regional Manager for the Stockholm/Mälardalen Region within NCC Construction Sweden. Project planning work will start as early as April and construction will commence during the summer. NCC will have an average of 25 skilled workers and 15 salaried employees active in the project. The assignment will be included in orders received during the second quarter of 2005.
