NCC to develop Jakomäki district in Helsinki
NCC has today signed a project agreement with the Real Estate Department of the City of Helsinki on the joint development of the Jakomäki district centre in Helsinki.
“Jakomäki is a unique pilot project to all of the parties. We at NCC are extremely happy to have won this project, thanks to our wide expertise and competence in urban development work”, says Markus Saari, Unit Director at NCC Building Finland.
There are currently five buildings used as schools and day care centres in Jakomäki which, as a result of the development work, will be replaced by one building, either by renovating or extending the building currently used as an upper-level school, or, alternatively, by constructing an entirely new building.
The land areas to be vacated in connection with the development work are intended to be built with housing. According to the estimates of the City of Helsinki, the scope of residential construction will be approximately 20,000 square metres equalling to some 100-500 dwelling units depending on the implementation method.
The alliance is bound to arrange an idea competition this autumn in order to gather concepts to be used as a basis for the architecture of the service building and zoning. Following this, the actual development phase will start with elaboration of the design for the service buildings and the residential construction and zoning to be carried out by the City.
“This is the first project to which we will apply a new area development model in which the City will co-operate with private entities from ideation to implementation. The project has been under preparation by the City since 2014, and we have now found a partner in NCC with whom it will be beneficiary to launch the development of both the Jakomäki district and a new operating model”, says Project Development Manager Jarmo Raveala from the City of Helsinki.
The targeted budget of the City of Helsinki for the construction of the service building amounts to 280 MSEK. Construction works in the area will start in 2019 at the latest. The service building is bound to be completed during 2020.
