NCC has been commissioned by the Capital Region of Denmark to participate in the construction of New Herlev Hospital, northwest of Copenhagen. NCC will be responsible for concrete, steel and earth and groundworks. The order is worth SEK 350 million.

NCC has been awarded the contract for all concrete and steelworks, and some of the earth and groundworks in the extension of Herlev Hospital, which encompasses slightly more than approximately 56,000 square meters.

The extension will be built from digital models. The developer works consistently with digitization, enabling all parties involved to make use of digital models.

“We have been working purposefully with digitization at NCC for a long time. But it is only now that all parties in a construction project are using digital construction that we can enjoy the many advantages in the projects. For this reason, it is really positive to see that the Capital Region of Denmark has put digitization on the agenda from the very beginning,” says Niels López Krogh Nielsen, Production Manager at NCC Construction Denmark.

A major focus on digitization involves having digital drawings, with traditional 2D paper drawings only used in a small amount of daily work at the construction site. In addition, all data about the construction project is kept in the digital model. This means, for example, that quality controls can be added directly in the model.

“The digital models mean that all data is saved in a single location, thus providing a better overview and greater efficiency. It also serves as a valuable collaborative tool for all parties involved,” says Niels López Krogh Nielsen.

The extension of Herlev Hospital includes a women and children’s center and an emergency hospital. There will also be a regional sterilization center and an extension of the hospital’s service building.

NCC will commence work in mid-November 2015 and is scheduled to finish most of the work in September 2017. More than 500 skilled workers will be working at the various construction sites when the construction of the entire New Herlev Hospital is at its most intense. New Herlev Hospital is scheduled for completion in 2018. The order will be registered during the fourth quarter in NCC Construction Denmark.
