NCC Construction Sweden has secured an assignment from the Swedish Transport Administration to construct new tracks, platforms and a concrete tunnel at Umeå Central Station. The order is valued at approximately SEK 240 million and work is scheduled to commence on July 1, 2010.

Umeå Central Station is to be remodeled to ensure that it can accommodate the increase in traffic that is expected to be generated by the Bothnia Line. Goods handling will be relocated from central Umeå to a new goods station outside the city. This relocation will facilitate the transformation of Umeå Central Station into a dedicated passenger train station. NCC’s assignment includes the construction of two new platforms and sound proofing for the Haga district of the city. An 80-meter-long concrete tunnel is also to be constructed under the railway area to improve connections between the Haga district and central Umeå. Furthermore, NCC will conduct extensive work on the railway tracks for the new travel hub at Umeå Central Station. Platform 1 at Umeå Central Station will be ready for passenger traffic on May 30, 2011 and the entire remodeling project is scheduled for completion on October 1, 2012. The order will be registered in the second quarter of 2010.
