NCC to start engineering program for site managers of the future
NCC and Kunskapsskolan are to start a new upper-secondary school program with a focus on engineering in Stockholm and Gothenburg. The program is customized to meet the increasing demand for site managers and supervisors in the construction industry.
“We will have the opportunity to influence the construction industry in the long-term since our values and focus on sustainability will permeate the entire program. The program is prepared based on the individual core expertise of NCC and Kunskapsskolan, which will guarantee the highest quality for students,” says Svante Hagman, Business Area Manager of NCC Construction Sweden.
There is a general shortage of engineers in society and particularly site managers and supervisors. The NCC Engineering Program is a collaboration with Kunskapsskolan to meet the generation shift, as many people will be retiring thus generating even greater need.
“Our teaching methodology, which encourages being responsible and taking initiative, combined with NCC’s expertise in engineering, sustainability and construction will generate the excellent conditions required for careers in the construction industry,” says Fredrik Lindgren, President and CEO of Kunskapsskolan.
The engineering program is an upper-secondary school engineering program that will generate the appropriate qualifications to study civil engineering and graduate engineering at universities and colleges. It consists of two classes; one in Stockholm and one in Gothenburg, for a total of 30 students.
The program includes management courses, a mentor from NCC and the opportunity to work on ongoing projects at NCC. In the third year, a trainee period and study visit will be conducted in one of the countries in which NCC is active. The aim is for the program to have a connection with practical work to generate the best conditions for the future professional life of students after completing the program.
