ManuBuild, a European consortium consisting of members from ten countries, is to conduct a four-year research program with the aim of increasing the efficiency of residential construction. NCC Construction Sweden and Industriforskning and Utveckling AB, IVF are the participating companies from Sweden.

ManuBuild is the largest EU-financed development project ever to focus on the construction sector. The 195 MSEK project shall gradually change the industry so that it moves away from today’s traditional construction methods towards more efficient industrial-type manufacturing. The EU is contributing approximately SEK 94 million and the consortium members will account for the remainder. NCC’s budget amounts to SEK 14 million, with the EU grant accounting for SEK 6.3 million. Shorter construction period, lower costs and less waste The member companies represent the leading builders, manufacturers and universities in Europe. ManuBuild will focus on creating inspirational and attractively priced residential properties by means of an efficient process that reduces construction costs, construction time and construction waste. “We will address a number of the key issues associated with the transformation of the construction sector, such as the driving forces for modernizing production methods, improving safety and reducing construction waste,” says Jan Byfors, Head of NCC’s Research & Development. ManuBuild will implement demonstration projects throughout Europe, including two large apartment blocks in Spain and one in Sweden, as well as a residential and hospital unit in the United Kingdom.
