The Polish government and the concession company AWSA* have agreed construction terms for Phase 2 of A2 expressway Poland's Deputy Infrastructure Minister Mr. Jan Kurylczyk confirmed on Tuesday that the Government of Poland and the concession company AWSA, in which NCC is a partner, have reached agreement regarding the costs for continued construction of the A2 expressway. For the construction consortium, in which NCC and Strabag of Austria are members, this agreement in principle is an important step on the way to securing the construction assignment from AWSA. The total construction value of the second phase is estimated at about EUR 638 million. The aim is that the financial solution will be ready by March 31, 2005, which is a prerequisite for starting construction of the expressway before the summer of 2005. One condition for the price is that the road will be constructed in accordance with the highways plan currently being formulated. The second phase, which is 100 kilometers long, extends from the German border in the west to Nowy Tomyl in the east, where it will connect with the first phase, which is nearly 150 kilometers long. The construction consortium consisting of NCC and Strabag are currently completing the first phase, which will be inaugurated during October 2004. When it is ready, the A2 expressway will connect Berlin with Warsaw. The Government of Poland is the client and the A2 will be Poland's first privately financed expressway. AWSA already has a 40-year concession on the construction and operation of both phases. *The project is being developed by Autostrada Wielkopolska SA (AWSA), the concession company in which NCC is a partner, and the A2 expressway is being constructed by A2 Bau Development, a joint venture between NCC and Strabag of Austria.
