Worksite accidents at NCC have been reduced by close to 40 percent since 2011. This positive trend is in part attributable to NCC’s increased focus on safety and the introduction of Awareness Day, during which the work environment and safety are discussed by the entire Group at all of NCC’s various worksites.

The number of worksite accidents has been reduced in Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Finland. The decline can be noted across all business areas.

“Our vision is an accident rate of zero. Every accident is one too many. At the same time, we can note that NCC’s worksite safety initiatives have yielded an effect. The discussions that now take place during Awareness Day comprise a key tool in the unceasing efforts required to continue to increase safety,” says Peter Wågström, President and CEO of NCC.

This is the fourth consecutive year that NCC will arrange Awareness Day. Tools are downed at 9:00 a.m. at all NCC worksites in the company’s various countries of operation to permit Group-wide discussion of general perceptions of the work environment and improvement measures for employee health and safety.

“The focus this year is on maintaining an orderly workplace. We are referring to the 5S methodology, which includes: Sort, Set in Order, Standardize, Shine and Sustain. Maintaining an orderly workplace also reduces the risk of accidents. By discussing worksite safety, we can identify improvement potential in terms of employee attitudes and behavior patterns,” says Lars-Gunnar Larsson, the Group’s Work Environment Manager with responsibility for Awareness Day.

NCC introduced Awareness Day in 2011. Between 2011 and mid-2014, worksite accidents have been reduced by close to 40 percent. NCC has a vision of reducing worksite accidents to zero and has zero tolerance for noncompliance with safety rules.
