Nel ASA: Awarded contract for electrolyser plant in Mexico and celebrates delivery to country number 60
(Oslo, December 13th, 2016) Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser, a division of Nel ASA, has entered into an agreement with Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo (IMP), a research institute, for the delivery of a Nel A-150 electrolyser plant. With this agreement, Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser celebrates delivery as many as 60 different countries worldwide.
From Ecuador in the west to Japan in the east, from South Africa in the south to Finland in the north, electrolysers from Nel Hydrogen have been installed and recognised for their reliability amongst global, regional and national companies in a wide span of industries. With the agreement with IMP, Nel Hydrogen Electrolysers reach a new milestone as it marks delivery to a customer in the 60th country. But more importantly, it also represents a new exciting end use of the electrolyser technology, which potentially have a large impact on future business of Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser.
“The Nel A-150 is the benchmark of efficiency in the market and we are proud to have been selected by IMP for the delivery of this complete on-site electrolyser plant. The Nel A-150 will play an important role in IMP’s research project for Mexico’s national oil company, Pemex. The facility will be used to explore how hydrogen can increase the efficiency of oil extraction,“ says Division Manager Lars Markus Solheim in Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser.
Including add-on services, the total project value for Nel Hydrogen Electrolyser has a total value exceeding EUR 1 million. The electrolyser plant will be delivered in the second half of 2017.
“If this project is successful and demonstrates assumed efficiency gain, we could see a large demand for hydrogen production technology in this market”, Solheim concludes.
IMP awarded the contract to Nel Hydrogen Electrolysers after exploring various alternative electrolyser suppliers globally.
“After reviewing the worldwide market, we choose Nel from Norway as our supplier as their technology is proven, robust and has a very high efficiency level. We value the long experience of Nel within electrolyser technology, as it is of utmost importance for us in the research project to have a stable and continuous supply of hydrogen. This combined with an attractive cost level made Nel the obvious choice for us”, says José Manuel Dominguez head of the research project within Mexican Petroleum Institute (IMP).
