Netnod is strengthening the digital infrastructure in the Nordic region by establishing its own wavelength network, based on DWDM technology. Following a comprehensive evaluation, the Scandinavian company Smartoptics has been selected as the strategic partner for this initiative. Netnod joins coalition to defend the open Internet

Netnod has joined a broad coalition in signing a joint statement warning against some of the risks of the European Commission's proposed Digital Networks Act (DNA).Published today, on 9 June 2026, the statement highlights that the DNA threatens to weaken established EU net neutrality rules and disrupt Europe’s highly competitive and well functioning IP interconnection ecosystem. By absorbing the Open Internet Regulation into a broader framework and introducing potentially problematic "ecosystem cooperation" mechanisms, the proposal risks bringing in network fees through the back door.
