Gothenburg company Novacura has got a new customer in the oil industry. This is the Norwegian company BW Offshore, which has chosen to invest in Novacura's custom-made software Flow to safeguard data communication between oil tankers and the shore.

"We are incredibly pleased that BW Offshore have placed their trust in us. The oil industry is tough and BW Offshore themselves tend to say that if something works for them it will work for everyone. The fact that we have coped with this challenge shows the flexibility and dynamism we have, in both our product and in our organisation," says Johan Melander, Managing Director at Novacura.

Work in the oil industry is among the toughest jobs you can do – work takes place far offshore and often in difficult weather conditions, which places enormous demands on technology to safeguard operations. And it is precisely in order to meet these tough requirements that Norwegian oil player BW Offshore chose Novacura Flow.

"We were looking for software that could safeguard data communication between ship and shore, a tool that could synchronise our databases continuously. Therefore our greatest demand on the tool was that it should contain a replication module – which Novacura Flow does," says Fritz Eklöff, Senior vice president corporate IT and systems at BW Offshore

Novacura Flow is a tool that is added as a shell on the outside of an existing business system and adapts it to make it both easier and more efficient. Novacura analyses the current situation and adapts Flow based on the need for creating a customised solution.

"We need partners who can put themselves into our complex situation and adapt their software to precisely what we need. In this case, we have been working closely together with Novacura during the development work. They have been very service-minded and have customised Flow to meet our needs," says Fritz.

BW Offshore has at present 13 ships working across the globe, taking oil from oil platforms and then storing or processing the crude oil until it can be loaded onto an oil tanker. For the last six months, two of the ships, one off the coast of Africa and one in the Gulf of Mexico, have had an early version of Flow.

"So far the application has worked extremely well, and in future we will be introducing the tool on all our ships," says Fritz.

Johan Melander, Managing Director of the Novacura group, is pleased to be able to deliver Flow to a new customer in the Norwegian oil industry.
