O-I OPENS EUROPEAN GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS OFFICE IN BRUSSELS

Nicolas Robin joins O-I as European Governmental Affairs Director and leads new office

Brussels, June 30, 2011 – Owens-Illinois, Inc. (NYSE: OI), the world’s largest glass container manufacturer and the leading European glass packaging company, today announced the opening of its European Governmental Affairs office and the appointment of Nicolas Robin as European Governmental Affairs Director.

In his role, Nicolas Robin will:

  • Represent O-I on government affairs matters at the European Union level and throughout Europe. He will provide leadership, support and coordination for O-I’s national and provincial government affairs initiatives and support O-I’s industry association activities.
  • Work with the European sustainability program leadership in support of our corporate sustainability goals, including increasing the company’s use of recycled content and reducing energy usage and emissions.

“The creation of a European government affairs position in Brussels with Nicolas is an important step for O-I, as it signals the company’s commitment to participation in legislative and regulatory affairs in Europe”, said Jose Lorente, President of O-I Europe.

Nicolas Robin joins O-I from Interel European Affairs, a leading European government affairs firm located in Brussels and other European capitals. He has 17 years of experience in advocacy for companies at the European Union and in France.

“Nicolas has represented and advised O-I for several years while at Interel”, said Dan Steen, Vice-President Global Governmental Affairs. “He comes to O-I well prepared to help us pursue our business strategies through this government affairs role.”

Prior to his role at Interel, Nicolas Robin also was the assistant to MEP Jean-Louis Bourlanges in the European Parliament and worked for the French magazine trade association and the local government of Picardie (France). As a research fellow at the Johns Hopkins University (USA), he conducted a series of seminars on European integration and its economic impact.

He currently serves as a board member of the Society of European Affairs Professionals (SEAP) for which he is the Convener of the Membership Committee.

Nicolas Robin has a B.A. in economics The Aix – Marseille III University and an M.A. in economics from the Free University of Brussels.
