This year, the annual Summer jobs paid for by OP campaign has a record number of open positions in the third sector for applicants aged 15 to 17. Open positions are published on OP cooperative bank websites, and this summer, as many as 1,700 youth can find summer jobs through the campaign.

In the campaign, OP cooperative banks across Finland donate a total of 700,000 euros to support youth summer employment by non-profit associations. Associations can use the donations by OP cooperative banks to hire youth aged 15 to 17 for two-week long summer jobs. Candidates apply for the summer jobs directly from the associations participating in the campaign. When an association hires a young person, OP will pay two weeks of wages to the association.

“There are great summer job opportunities available in associations all across Finland. Our goal with the Summer jobs paid for by OP campaign is to support both youth employment and third-sector activities. Getting that first job is an important milestone for young persons,” says Tuuli Kousa, Chief Communications Officer and SVP, Communications and Public Affairs at OP Financial Group.

This is the sixth summer when OP cooperative banks across Finland offer young people the opportunity to learn about working life. The “Summer Jobs Paid for by OP” campaign began in 2014, when OP Lounaismaa and OP Valkeakoski challenged other OP cooperative banks to hire young people for summer jobs.

The selection of open positions ranges from assistant instructors to communications assistants and event and catering workers. Associations hire and train the summer employees and are responsible for work supervision, payment of wages and employer obligations.
