Three-year results from the field study EN 12037 for OrganoWood Nowa
OrganoWood Nowa is currently undergoing one of the toughest standard field tests available for above-ground wood, EN 12037! The test lasts for 5 years in Malaysia and Denmark, and now we are publishing the three-year results.
To determine the durability of wood above ground, various standardized tests can be conducted to assess its resistance to decay, most of which are laboratory tests. However, we also wanted to see how it performs in natural outdoor environments in one of the world's toughest environments for wood, in the Malaysian rainforest.
The independent third-party institute, Danish Technological Institute, therefore conducts the field test EN 12037 with OrganoWood Nowa in both Denmark and Malaysia.
The references, consisting of untreated pine and the CCA (chromium, copper, and arsenic) impregnation prohibited for 20 years, were also included in the test. The scale for assessing decay ranges from 0 to 4, where 0 is unaffected and 4 is completely decayed. The untreated reference in Malaysia was completely decayed after 3 years, primarily by rot fungi but also termites. Pine pressure-treated with CCA remained unaffected as expected.
But even OrganoWood Nowa was completely unaffected, scoring 0 on the scale! The result indicates very good wood protection even in the hot and humid environment that a rainforest offers. The field study will continue, and we will continuously report the results from both Denmark and Malaysia.
