Stockholm, 2nd of May 2016 - An increasing number of temporary professionals are better skilled, have years of experience and are better educated: In Sweden 65% of people have at least a bachelor’s degree. They are expected to work more autonomously, take on more responsibility and be more flexible. These are the main conclusions of a new study by Page Personnel.

In its latest Global Temporary and Interim Management study, Page Personnel surveyed 1,804 managers of companies that hire temporary employees and 2,944 professionals in temporary positions in 65 countries.

A new deal for temporary employees

The study shows how temporary employment has changed. Traditionally, temporary jobs tended to be filled by school leavers and assistants, whose roles were more junior. But expectations are rising: The majority of Swedish temp consultants said that they are expected to communicate more with other internal departments (80%) and to be more flexible (70%) than before. They also recognized that their temporary job requires more autonomy (63%) and that they have to do more in less time (59%).To meet the requirements of faster integration and immediate impact, it’s no surprise that the present temporary employee is more senior than before: 84% have five years of experience or more.

From generalist to specialist

Results show how temporary employment has professionalised over the last years. There is a shift in demand from general workers to highly skilled specialists, especially in developed economies, where Sweden is at the forefront. They are recruited for all business areas from finance and accounting and engineering to procurement and supply chain.

”The availability of specialised and experienced temp consultants is crucial to be able to cover for all kind of situations where additional expertise is needed such as parental leaves, projects, temporary increase of workload or reorganisations”, says Ashley Stephenson, Executive Manager at Page Personnel Sweden.
